The process for gift matching is specific to your employer. Here’s a general description.
Many employers will match your gift to BRITE Co, and some employers will even match donations from spouses or retired employees. Once you have donated, please check with your Human Resources department. If you’d like to have your gift matched by your employer, BRITE Co will need to register with the third-party platform (like Benevity) in order to be a recipient of your company’s gift matching program. The gift-matching platform will have a simple form to include with your donation - and we can handle the rest!
For more information, please contact Shalene Onyango (shalene@britecollab.org).

LCJP partners with the Longmont Community Foundation to accept your gifts of stock. Making gifts of appreciated securities is beneficial for all parties, because the gift amount and deduction are the fair market value of the stock and there is no capital gains tax.
Here’s a more technical description of the process involved in stock/mutual fund transfer donations:
1) A donor to uses Longmont Community Foundation’s (LCF) stock/mutual fund donation form.
2) The stock/mutual fund shares are then transferred to LCF.
3) The donor receives gift receipt from LCF for donation based on value of the stocks/mutual fund on day it was received by LCF.
4) Shares are immediately sold by LCF, and the proceeds are placed in LCJP’s LCF account.
5) LCJP may choose to have LCF transfer the proceeds to LCJP.
NOTE: It is important for the donor to complete the LCF donation form and submit the form to LCF. This is an important step two reasons: 1) it notifies LCF that the stocks arrive in the LCF account so that LCF may to associate the funds with the donor and their intentions ; 2) there are rare cases where a specific stock or mutual fund cannot be gifted due to restrictions on what LCF’s broker can receive. (Again, this is rare. However, there are odd cases, such as an investment firm specific fund or stock on a non-traditional market.)
Benefits of this option for donating to LCJP:
1) Donations of appreciated stock or mutual funds potentially benefit the donor in two significant ways. This can be particularly beneficial in the following circumstances:
2) Donor is in the 20% capital gains tax bracket.
3) Donor is in the 24% tax bracket for other income.
4) Shares of stock/mutual funds are worth $10,000 now, but were purchased many years ago for $2,000 ($8,000 gain if sold).
5) Donor itemizes deductions, so value of any donations reduces taxable income.
Without using this process, the following happens when the donor sells the stock/mutual fund:
1) Receive $10,000 cash for selling stock
2) Pay $1,600 in taxes (20% of $8,000 gain), leaving $8,400 net
3) Donate net $8,400 in cash to LCJP
4) Itemize $8,400 donation, saving $2,016 in taxes on other income
If the donor donated the stock/mutual fund directly to LCJP via LCF, the following will happen:
1) Donate stock via LCF - LCJP immediately receives $10,000 in cash ($1,600 more!)
2) No taxes are paid for capital gains since LCJP is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization
3) Donor itemizes the $10,000 donation, and saves $2,400 in taxes on other income ($384 more!)
4) Together, LCJP and donor benefit by almost $2,000 combined.

If you are over the age of 70.5, you may qualify for a Tax-Free transfer of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) up to $100,000 from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA). If you have questions on the specifics, please talk to your tax professional for more details.
Such gifts are sent as a check or electronic transfer directly to BRITE, similar to any other donation. If you choose to donate this way, please make sure your name is somehow included in the transfer (or notify us that you’re sending this donation). Without specifying who is making the donation, donor information may not be obvious on the check since the funds are coming to BRITE Co from an investment account rather than a personal checking/savings account.

Yes! Longmont Community Foundation (LCF) provides a number of different types of fund accounts, in which non-profits can manage invested assets. BRITE Co has one of these Agency Fund accounts. In addition, there are other types of accounts for non-profits, like Donor Advised Funds. In these accounts, individuals or families have donated funds that can be further donated to any qualifying 501(c)(3). Donor Advised Fund owners can directly make a gift to BRITE Co all within the LCF system, because BRITE Co is already in the LCF non-profit directory. This is just one example of how to donate to BRITE Co via LCF. Other LCF funds can be used to give grant funds directly to BRITE Collaborative.
BRITE Co is listed on LCF’s non-profit directory HERE.

Yes! Donating cars is always handled by a 3rd party, and there are several options to choose from. Once you select a company to facilitate the car donation, BRITE Co will register with that company. After registering, BRITE Co will be eligible to receive the proceeds from your car donation.
The process for a donor is as follows:
Contact the 3rd party company to facilitate the car donation
Indicate you want the proceeds to be donated to LCJP
Notify LCJP so that we may register with the company you selected
Next, the 3rd party will:
Coordinate the collection of the vehicle and title (towing, if needed)
Sells the vehicle at auction (wholesale for used vehicle)
Donates the proceeds of the sale to the charity (less fees, if any)
Provides a donation receipt to the donor for the actual price paid at auction (typically several weeks after the donation was made.)
CARS and Cars for Charity are two examples of such organizations, but there are more.

There are several options to give to BRITE Co as part of a donor’s estate at time of death:
Bequest spelled out in a Will (just like other heirs)
As a beneficiary of an IRA/401K/Annuity/Pension/etc - these bypass a Will and pass directly to the beneficiaries.
As a beneficiary of a Life Insurance Policy (cash paid on death)
